Shaft is a 2019 American action comedy film directed by Tim Story and written by Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow. The film stars Samuel L. Jackson, Jessie T. Usher, Regina Hall, and Richard Roundtree.
It is the fifth film in the Shaft series, a sequel to the 2000 film with the same title. It was also Roundtree’s final portrayal of the original eponymous character, John Shaft Sr. before he died in 2023.
Synopsis: JJ, aka John Shaft Jr., maybe a cyber security expert with a degree from MIT, but to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s untimely death, he needs an education only his dad can provide. Absent throughout JJ’s youth, the legendary locked-and-loaded John Shaft agrees to help his progeny navigate Harlem’s heroin-infested underbelly.
