Bookworm is a 2024 New Zealand adventure comedy-drama film directed by Ant Timpson and based on a screenplay by Toby Harvard. The film is about a young girl named Mildred embarking on an adventure with her estranged American father, Strawn Wise, to seek out the mythical Canterbury panther.
The movie stars Elijah Wood and Nell Fisher and it had its world premiere at the 28th Fantasia International Film Festival on 18 July 2024. It was released in New Zealand on 8 August 2024.
Synopsis: Eleven-year-old Mildred’s life is turned upside down when her mother lands in hospital and her estranged, American magician father, Strawn Wise, comes to look after her. Hoping to entertain the bookish tween, Strawn takes Mildred camping in the notoriously rugged New Zealand wilderness, and the pair embark on the ultimate test of family bonding – a quest to find the mythological beast known as the Canterbury Panther.
